MLC Notice. Navigable waterways closure to the west of Lodes End Lock.

Our Ref: 232f & 106/15

Notice – Suspension of Navigation

Middle Level Acts 2018 – Section 7
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN THAT: closure of navigation of or through the below mentioned
waterway forming part of the Middle Level System will be between – Closure 3: 7th May – 15th May 2026

Navigable waterways to the West of Lodes End Lock. Lodes End Lock will be closed

Emergency works are required at Bevill’s Leam Pumping Station this Spring and Summer. Water levels
will need to be lowered in our Bevill’s pond to i) remove two of the pumps from the station and ii) to
reinstall them.
We anticipate there will be three emergency closures. Closure 1 to remove a pump. Closure 2 to
reinstall that pump and remove a second. Closure 3 to reinstall the second pump. The timings of
closures 2 & 3 are very much dependent upon the condition of the pump and the scale of
refurbishment works needed.
Levels will be too low to safely navigate during this period and therefore boaters will need to ensure
their vessels have sufficient slack in their ropes if moored West of Lodes End Lock. Lodes End Lock will
be closed during the operation. We encourage all boaters to avoid making trips heading west through
Lodes End Lock for the full duration of works.
Navigable waterways affected are:

  • Yaxley Lode
  • New Dyke
  • Monks Lode
  • Great Raveley Drain
  • Bevill’s Leam (West of the pumping station)
  • Old Nene (West from Lodes End Lock to the confluence with Bevill’s Leam)
The Nene to Great Ouse navigation Link Route through the Middle Level is unaffected by these
    works.
