Fishing Platform
MS reported all of the timber has been cut to length and will be ready to start construction on Saturday 6th February 2021 and depending on the weather should finish by Sunday 7th February 2021. Bob Nudd the 4 times World Freshwater Fishing champion will formerly open the platform on Monday 8th February 2021, along with MS, his daughter and 2 children from the club. Parish councillors will be invited later on in the year when COVID-19 restrictions allow.
A1101 and Creek Bank Erosion
JD reported some concern from Upwell and Outwell villagers on the Creek bank erosion running along side the A1101. JH mentioned that Outwell parish councillors have raised this with the Kings Lynn and West Norfolk Borough Council, who claim the maintenance of this stretch of road isn’t their responsibility, there was a similar response from the MLC too. GS commented that this was raised before by Prue Lester a few years ago where she contacted Elizabeth Truss our constituency
MP, but nothing came of it. The council agreed to request Prue Lester to contact Elizabeth Truss again.
Fisherman Parking on the Daffodils
JD reported a concern from Alan Payne, who follows the Well Creek Trust Facebook page, about some concern with fisherman parking on the daffodils and the banks of the Creek causing erosion.
This story picked up momentum on the Facebook page when a sign maker in Upwell offered to make some warning signs free of charge for the Trust, sponsored by his company. MS commented that there are more fisherman on the Creek due to the traditional fishing areas being flooded, whereas the Creek water level is managed by pumps and doesn’t flood and good to fish.
The council agreed that we would need somebody to put the signs in place and then remove them when the daffodils have finished flowering and isn’t practical. MS mentioned the fishing season is due to end in a couple of weeks and will look out for any fishermen parked on the daffodils and politely ask them to move their cars.
Green Footbridge Upwell
PJ reported that the green footbridge in Upwell has temporarily been closed due to some holes in the rotting timbers and wanted to know who is responsible for its’ maintenance. RM suggested it’s the responsibility of the county council. JH volunteered to get a contact name and will circulate it to the council members.
The meeting closed at 7.35pm.
